In today's world, the word technology is highly praised in most communities that are privileged with it. Computers, cars, and believe it or not, dangerous arms. Who's to say that any of these are inherently violent or peaceful. It depends on the one who has all the power, and in most cases, it's people. People and technology create weapons, weapons create technology, and weapons are used to fulfill our daily necessities as human beings.
Most of the people in the world view a gun to be bad, because the media blows it up to be something that it couldn't be. Weapons don't have to be used for bad, people made it that way. On the other hand, the world views a computer to be the most revolutionized & important aspect in our daily lives. Without it people are nothing, apparently. But most of the blunderheads that believe the media don't realize that a computer is just as dangerous as pointing a gun at someone's head. "To treat technologies as inherently good or bad is not helpful, since technologies have multiple uses". This quote not only proves that technologies can be used in a variety of ways, both good & bad, but it proves that the one thing we thought kept us going, could be our downfall

"On the other side is the view that technologies are largely determined by their origins and inevitably serve the purposes of their creators". |
People, for the most part, come up with the ideas for new, innovative inventions. Take cars for example. Someone had to have come up with the idea to solve a problem or to fulfill a desire they had. The same goes for gun, computers, even a freakin' blender. "On the other side is the view that technologies are largely determined by their origins and inevitably serve the purposes of their creators". This quote explains that the person behind the creation of a new technology, made it for a reason. Most of the world assumes guns were used to kill people, not only because of the mass publicity it's been having lately, but also because the creator of a gun had to have the idea in mind for the killing aspect for it to even be relevant today. All in all, the idea that technology is created to serve the purposes of those who created it is largely relevant in violence and peace turf.

When thinking of someone holding a high caliber rifle, be honest, nobody usually thinks of a girl. Now before everyone gets all "Well actually I don't think..." blah, blah, blah, let's explain. The quote, "As soon as weapons become more mechanically powered and automated strength is largely irrelevant, and so in principle gender should become irrelevant", pretty much says that once we become so technologically advanced, the idea that women aren't as strong as men will be irrelevant. Everything can be controlled by anyone. Not just only men can carry 30 pound guns. Aside from the equality aspect of things, there's also the idea that men might be more violent with weapons, and women just a little more peaceful. There's no definite ideal behind that, it's merely an opinion, just because men are usually more violent than women Again, it all depends on the person in control. Humans create their own destinies.

"A strategy for peace needs to include a policy for technology" |
A solution for all of this mess the people have basically thrown themselves into is to find a balance between violence and peace. Not everything should be used to harm. However, not everything should be peaceful. "A strategy for peace needs to include a policy for technology". This basically means that there needs to be a policy in place for the uses behind technology in order to begin to start to make a strategy for peace. Someone can't just create something and say, "This will only be used to kill animals or humans". There needs to be a policy to say that there should be other ways on how to evaluate the uses behind a new invention. This is a step toward the future, and a step towards a balance in peace.

In conclusion, people create technology for themselves, control it for themselves, and exploit it to the people. These technologies create weapons, and these weapons bring a counter-balance of violence and peace. The goal of today is to use these technologies to fulfill our wishes, but with a balance between violence and peace. Too much violence can lead down the burning path. Too much peace has a similar road. The balance between violence and peace and fulfillment will ultimately make the world a better place, and make the world smile a little bit more.
